The Northwest Regional Workforce Investment Board is the administrative entity that oversees Workforce Investment Act- and CT Department of Labor-funded job training programs in the Northwest Region Service Delivery Area, which includes Waterbury and forty other municipalities.

Healthcare Career Opportunities

The Health Professional Opportunity Group (HPOG) is a grant for eligible participants to enter and advance along a career in the healthcare field, by receiving free job-related training.

Career pathways include:

  • Patient Care Technician
  • Phlebotomy Technician
  • Emergency Medical Technician
  • Certified Nurse's Aide
  • Pharmacy Technician
  • Personal Fitness Trainer
  • Health Information Management: Medical Administrative Assistant

Manufacturing Career Opportunities

Through the Northwest Regional Workforce Investment Board, the Manufacturing Your Future program trains qualified entry-level workers for job placement with employers in the Waterbury area. This regional partnership is made up of the Manufacturing Alliance Service Corporation (MASC), Waterbury and various local high schools, 16 employers, several business associations and chambers of commerce – to address the shortage of skilled workers in the manufacturing sector.

Training programs include:

  • Introduction to Manufacturing
  • Introduction to Machinist
  • Fundamentals of Manufacturing Technology
  • Engineering Drawing Specifications
  • Manufacturing Process/Precision Machining

Job Training Programs

Through CTHires, job seekers can access information regarding training programs in Waterbury, and throughout the State of Connecticut – including training courses approved by the Workforce Innovation & Opportunity Act (WIOA). 

WIOA is landmark legislation designed to help Americans – both youth and adults – overcome barriers to employment, and to help employers like those in Waterbury hire and retain skilled workers.
